Our client, a major manufacturer of video games, consoles, and gaming accessories, is required to comply with the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) from June 2025 due to its webshop.
Amidst numerous other strategic initiatives, our client had limited time to engage with the accessibility requirements in detail. They asked us to carry out a status quo analysis and assessment of the existing barriers and to support them in taking the first steps towards implementation.

SCOPE
Reducing barriers – iteratively, user journey by user journey.
Following an assessment against WCAG 2.1 standards, we prioritised the findings using defined user journeys. One of the most critical user journeys for an online shop, for example, is purchasing a product – covering all steps from product selection through to final checkout and payment.
Through this approach, a range of accessibility barriers were identified and addressed iteratively. In addition, we compiled the necessary technical information for the legal team to include in the website’s accessibility statement.
Initial barriers understood and addressed.
We supported our client in taking their first conscious steps towards accessibility – helping to identify, prioritise and reduce barriers.
This included improvements such as enabling smoother keyboard navigation, supporting accessibility tools like screen readers, and optimising form usability.
At the same time, we helped ensure that parallel initiatives to rebuild and expand the webshop were designed with accessibility in mind from the outset.
